This Getaway Special branches off the popular trekking routes and heads into beautiful unspoiled wilderness surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. This trail is a naturalist's paradise, back-droped by incredible mountain scenery. Wildlife of this area include the Himalayan Tahr (a large goat-like creature), the Pikka (a mammal similar to a guinea pig), and the national bird of Nepal - the multi-coloured Impeyan Pheasant. For the bird-watcher this trek presents a variety of species with maximum numbers available during the spring (March-May). Two Himalayan giants, Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,788m) and Annapurna I (8,091m/26,538ft) dominate the skyline. The Kali Gandaki River cuts between these two mighty peaks, forming the deepest gorge on the earth's surface, some 7,000m /23,000ft deep! Our camp-sites, high on the ridges beneath Annapurna South (7,237m/23,737ft) offer some of the finest panoramic views available in the Annapurna region.
Moderate to difficult trekking, and camping, from 1,000m (3,000ft) to 3,870m (12,700ft) and optional hiking to 4,500m (15,000ft).
